April Village Market

Held on the first Saturday of each month, Ruddington Village Market is a super shopping experience – and its opening hours have been extended this year from 9am to 2pm.

There’s a huge variety of stalls on The Green plus you’ll see the relatively new ‘Market Bar’ run by The Bottle Top. Market day is also a great chance to stroll around and visit many of Ruddington local shops, too.

On Saturday 1st April, over seventy traders are expected from 9am until 2pm on the village green.  The full list of this month’s visiting retailers – with their corresponding stall numbers on the map – is shown below:

The monthly market is a project of the award winning Ruddington Village Community Partnership (RVCP). The market has grown in many ways: initiatives include a Young Entrepreneurs’ Programme (to mentor 16 to 30 year olds into market stall businesses) a partnership with the Trent Bridge Trust’s YouNG Project (to offer under 16s the chance to trade), an electrical repair service in tandem with Illumination Repairs CIC – and locals can ask about the village by visiting Ruddington Parish Council‘s tent. Councillors welcome your ideas or concerns for the local area, and can tell you more about what’s coming up in Ruddington.

‘Live’ music will include ‘soulful sounds’ from Lyvia and a ‘folk and multi-instrumental set’ with Klemzer Tanz.

Charity of the month is Five Rivers (at Stall 52a) ‘one of the UK’s most experienced practitioner lead services in turning around the lives of vulnerable children and young people.’ Market organisers explain “It’s a fostering charity coming along to raise awareness of children in care and to recruit new foster carers.”

The White Horse on Church Street – the Village Market’s original venue – is also staging its usual smaller market on the same date – also running from 9am to 2pm.

The White Horse hosts its own market on the first Saturday of each month

Market days are very busy in Ruddington, and parking spaces are rather limited in the village centre, so residents are encouraged to walk there, if they can. Organisers say there are new arrangements about parking:

We’re advising parking along Mere Way this month and have a shuttle bus running from the bus stop there. See map for details.”

For Rushcliffe Country Park and Mere Way, you can head to NG11 6JS. The price is £1 for the Country Park or you may find free street parking.

For visitors from further afield, there’s also an NCT discounted Market Day travel ticket if you come to Ruddington by bus. Village Market organisers say: “We’re super excited to be partnering with Nottingham City Transport to offer 15% off adult and Grouprider tickets on Market DaysAll people need to do is scroll down to the NCT Partners category in the Mobile Tickets section of the NCTX Buses app, choose your ticket, enter discount code RUDDMARKET, and you’re good to go!”
